  • Sue Vavrock

    Doctor of Audiology, Owner

    Dr. Vavrock’s passion for helping others hear better began in childhood when her mother required surgery to improve her hearing. She earned a master’s degree from Auburn University and a doctorate in audiology from A.T. Still University. With 15 years of experience in ENT practices, she built a solid foundation in medical audiology before joining Thigpen Hearing Center in 2014. Working in private practice allows her to dedicate time to patients, building relationships to improve hearing. Dr. Vavrock is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and holds a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her husband and two children, traveling, cooking, and spending time at the lake. She is a Girl Scout leader and an active member of New Vision Baptist Church.

  • Meaghan Hanson

    Dr. Meaghan Hanson joined Thigpen Hearing Center in 2017. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Mississippi in 2013 and her doctorate in audiology from Auburn University in 2017. Dr. Hanson’s experience with ENT audiology, and with patients of all ages, provides a foundation for exceptional care. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Hanson enjoys traveling with her family, rooting for her Ole Miss Rebels, and taking ballet lessons. She is a member of Mother Teresa Catholic Church and has a black lab named Ron. She aims to provide compassionate, quality patient care to the entire community of Murfreesboro.

  • Shelby Smith

    Shelby joined Thigpen Hearing Center in 2021 as our audiology assistant. She is proficient in caring for our patients’ hearing aid needs as well as helping in the front and back office. Her favorite thing about her job is being able to serve her community and help them on their journey to better hearing. Shelby grew up in Smyrna, Tennessee, and is a graduate of Gateway Christian Academy. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and her church. Some of her hobbies include hiking with her husband and their dog, Levi, photography, cooking, and candle making.

  • Jennifer Sweazy
    Office Manager

    Jennifer joined the team in 2021 as our office manager. A native of Nashville, Jen earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2001 in textiles, merchandising, and design. Prior to joining Thigpen Hearing Center, she spent her career in the fashion industry where she gained extensive experience in customer service, private equities and investments, as well as management. Jen enjoys spending time with her husband and their two daughters and loves to read, travel, and shop–she’s a true fashionista at heart. She is also a certified barre fitness instructor and enjoys teaching classes locally.

  • Hannah Stephens
    Patient Care Coordinator

    Hannah is the smiling face you will see when you walk through the door at Thigpen Hearing Center. She grew up in Lewisburg and is a graduate of Marshall County High School. In her free time, she enjoys being on the water (preferably the beach), spending time with her fiance and family, and relaxing with a good book or movie. Hannah recently completed her certification for medical billing and coding at Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Murfreesboro. She makes all our jobs easier at Thigpen Hearing Center with her attention to detail, organization, and willingness to help whenever needed.

  • Madison Martin
    Insurance Coordinator

    Madison joined Thigpen Hearing Center in October of 2020 after having worked previously as a patient care coordinator in another audiology clinic. She was born and raised in Murfreesboro and received her Bachelor of Science in electronic media production from Middle Tennessee State University in 2014. When she’s not navigating the maze that is health insurance, she enjoys spending time with her family and fiance, going to concerts (with proper hearing protection), cooking, bowling, and having impeccable comedic timing. She is dedicated to making sure that each and every patient’s experience at Thigpen Hearing Center is the best that it can be.

      At Thigpen Hearing Center, our mission is to provide the best hearing healthcare from the first hello.       Our Specializations

      • Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)
        Recommendations and fitting of ALDs such as personal amplifiers, FM systems, or loop systems to improve hearing in specific listening situations.
      • Auditory Rehabilitation
        Individualized programs to help individuals with hearing loss develop better communication strategies and improve listening skills.
      • Counseling and Education
        Information and support regarding hearing loss, hearing conservation, communication strategies, and coping mechanisms for individuals and their families.
      • Custom Earplugs and Earmolds
        Creation and fitting of custom-made earplugs for hearing protection, swimming, musicians, and other specific needs. Also includes earmolds for hearing aids or in-ear monitors.
      • Hearing Aid Fitting and Repair
        Selection, fitting, and programming of hearing aids to address hearing loss. This includes counseling on the proper use and maintenance of hearing aids.
      • Hearing Evaluations
        Comprehensive assessments to evaluate hearing abilities, including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing.
      • Industrial Audiology
        Workplace hearing evaluations, noise exposure assessments, and recommendations for hearing conservation programs to prevent occupational hearing loss.
      • Pediatric Audiology
        Specialized services for children, including hearing screenings, diagnostic evaluations, hearing aid fittings, and educational support for parents and caregivers.
      • Tinnitus Evaluation and Management
        Assessment, counseling, and development of strategies to manage tinnitus (ringing or buzzing sound in the ears).
