  • Barbara McLendon

    Barbara McLendon has been a practicing audiologist since 1990. She completed her undergraduate degree in hearing and speech at the University of Maryland and her graduate degree in audiology at George Washington University. In May of 2009, she earned her doctorate degree in audiology from Salus University. Dr. McLendon completed her clinical fellowship year at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She worked for 10 years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the audiology center, where she was active in clinic and hospital-wide quality improvement programs. She was awarded a Civilian Medal of Achievement for her leadership role in the Civilian Welfare Program. Dr. McLendon feels privileged to have served Chestertown and the surrounding areas for the past 22 years.

    Stacie Glover has been an integral part of The Hearing Center of Chestertown since 2010. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in communication sciences and disorders, and a Master of Science degree in audiology from Towson University. She is a Maryland native who grew up in Anne Arundel County. Mrs. Glover’s wealth of experience comes from her years with us at The Hearing Center, and also her previous work at an ENT practice in Baltimore County and a private practice in Montgomery County. She is a member of the Maryland Academy of Audiology and committed to improving the lives of others through better hearing.

  • Michelle Hoon-Starr

    Michelle Hoon-Starr joined The Hearing Center of Chestertown in May 2022. Her compassionate care and brilliance are a welcome addition to our practice. She graduated summa cum laude with her bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary, and her doctorate in audiology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Michelle’s clinical interests include hearing aids, cochlear implants, and tinnitus evaluation and treatment. She is passionate about helping her patients improve their communication ability and overall quality of life. Chestertown is a special place for Michelle, as she spent time with her grandparents here as a child.

    Office manager Chris Bigelow has been with The Hearing Center of Chestertown since it opened in 2002. She is an integral part of the services we provide and the friendly atmosphere that helps set us apart. In addition to handling billing and insurance claims, Chris shows compassionate care to every patient and their family with a personal understanding of the communication issues that surround hearing loss. Her laugh is contagious, and she shares it freely with everyone she meets.

    Jennifer Chekouras joined The Hearing Center of Chestertown in March 2018. She has a degree in marketing from the University of Maryland and a passion for helping people with their unique better-hearing journeys. Jennifer understands the value of quality patient care, with an extensive background in customer service. She strives to make every patient feel comfortable and welcome during their visit – her only request is a smile to brighten the day.

      We are a local, independent, and community-based practice. Our hearing care professionals provide individualized consultations and offer the latest hearing technology on the market. Our providers and patients are supported by a superb office staff who keep our practice running smoothly. Each one of us strives daily to make every patient feel valued and cared for.

      Our Specializations

      • Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)
        Recommendations and fitting of ALDs such as personal amplifiers, FM systems, or loop systems to improve hearing in specific listening situations.
      • Auditory Rehabilitation
        Individualized programs to help individuals with hearing loss develop better communication strategies and improve listening skills.
      • Cochlear Implants
        Evaluation, candidacy determination, surgery referral, programming, and ongoing support for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss who may benefit from cochlear implant technology.
      • Counseling and Education
        Information and support regarding hearing loss, hearing conservation, communication strategies, and coping mechanisms for individuals and their families.
      • Custom Earplugs and Earmolds
        Creation and fitting of custom-made earplugs for hearing protection, swimming, musicians, and other specific needs. Also includes earmolds for hearing aids or in-ear monitors.
      • Hearing Aid Fitting and Repair
        Selection, fitting, and programming of hearing aids to address hearing loss. This includes counseling on the proper use and maintenance of hearing aids.
      • Hearing Evaluations
        Comprehensive assessments to evaluate hearing abilities, including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing.
      • Tinnitus Evaluation and Management
        Assessment, counseling, and development of strategies to manage tinnitus (ringing or buzzing sound in the ears).
